Hello again. This is my second newsletter. Unless I get some exciting news, I’ll be sending these quarterly so I'm not pressured to get you content every month and your email mailboxes won't get cluttered. It definitely has been a busy few months, and it will continue to be that way for a while, mainly due to the SECRET PROJECT.
Secret Project
What is this secret project? Well, obviously I can’t say. But it is something I’ve been working on since Fall 2020, so approaching three years. I can say that it’s my first major freelance gig. I can also tell you there will be an announcement, just not yet. Last week, the gig flew me out to meet the core team in person, which was so much fun. I got to visit some cool sites, eat lots of good food and had some intense brainstorming sessions. I'll tell more when the project's announced, and there will be pictures, I promise! So, like always, stay tuned! (Maybe I should make that the name of this newsletter…)
GigaNotoSaurus Nebulas Nomination
I do have good news to share that’s not a secret. If you don’t know, I’m the acquiring editor for the online speculative magazine GigaNotoSaurus, which was founded by author Ann Leckie. "Just Enough Rain" by P.H. Lee, a short story we published in May 2021, has been nominated for a Nebula Award. We at GNS are very excited—this is the first story that’s gotten nominated under my tenure, and it's such a fun and gorgeous story, and you can read it for free on our website. The Nebula Awards will be held online on Saturday, May 21, so hopefully I'll have an update on that in my next newsletter.
Workshops
Last year, I was approached by Clarion West to appear in an Black editor’s panel online. That led to me heading my very first workshop on revision this past January. Though it got off to a bumpy start, many people left the workshop feeling invigorated in completing their work. It gave me enough confidence to do the same workshop this fall, as well as leading a workshop at GenCon in August.
Speaking of cons…
Cons
I'm planning to be at cons this year! You can find me at
May 20-22: Nebulas Conference, online
May 27-30: WisCon, Madison, WI
August 4-7: GenCon, Indianapolis, IN
September 1-4: ChiCon, Chicago, IL
More cons may be added as my schedule allows.
Writing
Aside from the secret project, I'm excited to say that I'm working on short stories again. Current projects are a short story I’ve just written for an anthology which will be mentioned in the next couple of months, a novella I’m writing on my own (hooray!), and preliminary work on a new standalone novel I've dubbed as my “Black Fae Reconstructionist Story”.
That's all the updates I have for now. Feel free to friend me on Facebook or Twitter. Also if anyone has suggestions and ideas on how to turn my blog into a more dedicated website for my writing, just drop it in the comments. Thanks!
