A new year, a new way of communicating

Or how LaShawn decided to embrace the newsletter

Hello folks,

Welcome to the first newsletter of the new year. Thanks for subscribing!

I decided to move to this format because 1) I miss blogging, 2) I wanted a more private space to let people know about the writing life and whatnot. (Yes, I realize this is a public newsletter which anyone can readily access, but this is me tricking my own brain into doing this, so work with me here.) 3) I want a more reliable place than Facebook or Twitter to make announcements. I plan to put these out around the first Friday of the month, and I’ll try to keep them on the short side. Just think of this as me waving an occasional hello from across the room.

My 2021 was pretty busy, mostly focused on a SUPER SECRET PROJECT which I’m hoping to announce reaaaally soon. Next week, I’ll be leading my very first workshop for Clarion West called Breaking out of Revision Hell, which will be equipping participants on how to maintain their sanity while doing revisions.

I’m also working on a new short story and I’ve started planning a novella. More info on those in the coming months.

In the meantime, drop a comment to say hi. What would you all want to see from this newsletter? If I started a paid newsletter, what would you want to see from that? Also, for writer folks, what are your best revision tips? Or tell me a favorite fun thing you’ve been doing. Let’s make this a chill place to hang out. :-)
